DJI Zenmuse L2
Strong range, increased accuracy
Zenmuse L2 integrates the LiDAR frame, a high-precision IMU system and a CMOS RGB 4/3 mapping camera, providing DJI flight platforms with more accurate, efficient and reliable geospatial data acquisition. When used with DJI Terra, it provides a complete solution for high-precision 3D data collection and post-processing.
Complete LiDAR solution
Backed by its powerful hardware, L2 can enable accurate scanning of complex subjects over an extended range and faster point cloud acquisition. During operations, users can preview, reproduce and edit point cloud models in the field, with job quality reports generated by DJI Terra, offering a simple, one-stop solution to improve overall performance. This enables users to achieve highly accurate point cloud results with one post-processing stop.
High level accuracy
Combining GNSS and a high-precision self-developed IMU, this solution achieves a vertical accuracy of 4 cm and a horizontal accuracy of 5 cm.[1]
Super efficiency
It is ready to go once activated and can collect both geospatial and RGB data from an area of 2.5 km2 in one flight.[2]
Intuitive mode
Combined with the Matrice 350 RTK and DJI Terra, the L2 offers an all-in-one solution that is simple to use, reducing the operation.
Frame-based LiDAR
Increase detection range by 30%[5]
The L2 can detect from 250 meters at 10% reflectivity and 100 klx,[3] and up to 450 meters at 50% reflectivity and 0 klx.[3] > The typical operational altitude now extends up to 120 meters, greatly enhancing operational safety and efficiency.
Smaller laser spots, denser cloud spots
With a reduced spot size of 4*12 cm @100m, only one-fifth of the L1, the L2 not only detects smaller objects with more detail, but can also penetrate denser vegetation, creating more accurate digital elevation models.
Supports 5 returns
In densely vegetated areas, the L2 can capture more ground points below the foliage.
Effective point cloud emission rate: 240,000 pts/s
In both single and multiple return modes, L2 can reach a maximum point cloud emission rate of 240,000 points per second, allowing more point cloud data to be acquired in a given time frame.
Two scanning modes
L2 supports two scanning modes, offering users flexibility based on their job requirements. In repeat scan mode, L2's LiDAR can achieve more uniform and accurate cloud points, while meeting high-precision mapping requirements. In non-repetitive scan mode, it offers deeper penetration for more structural information, making it suitable for power line inspection, forestry and other scenarios.
Frame-based design
The frame-based design results in an effective point cloud data rate of up to 100%. Together with a three-axis gimbal, it brings more possibilities to surveying scenarios.
High precision IMU system
Improved accuracy
The high-precision IMU system, combined with the drone's RTK positioning system for data fusion during post-processing, gives the L2 access to extremely accurate absolute position, velocity and attitude information. In addition, the improved environmental adaptability of the IMU system improves the operational reliability and accuracy of the L2.
Yaw Accuracy[6]
Real-time: 0.2, post-processing: 0.05
Pitch/Roll Accuracy[6]
Real-time 0.05, post-processing: 0.025
No IMU warm-up
The performance of the IMU system has been significantly improved and is ready for use the moment it is turned on. And, the companion drone is ready to go as soon as RTK is in FIX mode, providing an optimized experience in the field.
RGB Mapping Camera
4/3 CMOS, Mechanical Shutter
The pixel size has been enlarged to 3.3 mm and the effective pixels now reach 20 MP, resulting in a significant improvement in the overall image, as well as richer cloud details with true colors. The minimum photo interval has been reduced to 0.7 seconds. The mapping camera has a shutter count of up to 200,000 times, further reducing operating costs. When point cloud collection is not required, the RGB camera can capture photos and videos or collect images for visible light mapping.
Improved operating experience
Different types of flight paths
Supports Waypoint, Area and Linear Route types to handle surveying tasks in various environments.
Cloud LiveView point
During operation, the DJI Pilot 2 app supports three display modes - RGB, point cloud, and point cloud/RGB side-by-side display, presenting operational results in an intuitive way. RNG (Laser Rangefinder) activation allows access to the distance information between the LiDAR unit and the object in the center of the FOV, improving flight safety. It also supports four real-time point cloud coloring modes - Reflectivity, Height, Distance and RGB.
Point Cloud Model Reproduction and Merging
After operation, the 3D point cloud model[7] can be viewed directly in the album. Multi-flight 3D Point cloud models can also be merged, enabling on-the-spot decisions about operational quality.
Auto-generated job quality report
After collecting point cloud data, the DJI Pilot 2 app will automatically generate a job quality report[8] so operators can check operational results in real-time and on-site, making fieldwork more responsive and worry-free.
Kinematic solution post-processing
In complex operational environments, users can configure RTK base stations before operation to proactively avoid loss of RTK data due to interference, video transmission disconnection or other issues. After operation, import original files into DJI Terra to use the PPK (kinematics post-processing) process to reconstruct high-precision models.
One-click editing in DJI Terra
Achieve efficient and reliable one-stop post-processing when importing point cloud data into DJI Terra. Create a standard form 3D point cloud model with trajectory calculation and precision optimization one click at a time. When classifying ground points using Ground Point Type, a digital elevation model can be output. The quality of the point cloud can be analyzed with the Accuracy Control and Check function.
Application Scripts
Coordinated with DJI Enterprise flight platforms and DJI Terra, Zenmuse L2 can be applied to geospatial mapping and mapping, electricity, forestry and infrastructure management, as well as other scenarios.

- Notes:
- Measured under the following conditions in a DJI lab environment: Zenmuse L2 mounted on a Matrice 350 RTK and turned on. Using DJI Pilot 2's Area Route to plot the flight path (with Calibrate IMU enabled). Using a repeat scan with the RTK in FIX mode. The relative altitude was set at 150 m, the flight speed at 15 m/s, the pitch of the gimbals at -90 and each straight leg of the flight path was less than 1500 m. The field contained objects with prominent angular features and used exposed hard ground control points conforming to the diffuse reflectance model. DJI Terra was used for post-processing with Optimize Point Cloud Accuracy enabled. Under the same conditions as Optimize Point Cloud Accuracy is not enabled, the vertical accuracy is 4 cm and the horizontal accuracy is 8 cm.
- Measured with Zenmuse L2 mounted on Matrice 350 RTK at 15m/s flight speed, 150m flight height, 20% side overlap percentage, Calibrate IMU enabled, Elevation Optimization disabled and ground tracking disabled.
- The data presented are typical values. It was measured using a flat subject with a size larger than the diameter of the laser beam, a vertical angle of incidence and an atmospheric visibility of 23 km. In low-light environments, laser beams can achieve optimal detection range. If a laser beam hits more than one subject, the total power of the laser transmitter is divided and the range that can be achieved is reduced. The maximum detection range is 500 m.
- After the power is turned on, the IMU does not require warm-up. However, users must wait for the RTK drone to be in FIX state before it can fly and operate.
- Calculated by comparison with Zenmuse L1.
- Measured under the following conditions in a DJI lab environment: Zenmuse L2 mounted on a Matrice 350 RTK and turned on. Using DJI Pilot 2's Area Route to plot the flight path (with Calibrate IMU enabled). RTK in FIX mode. The relative height is set at 150 meters, flight speed at 15 meters/second, pitch of gimbals at -90 and every straight section of the flight path was less than 1500 meters.
- 3D models are processed with sparse representation.
- Only supports generating point, area and linework quality reports.
