Once Osmo Pocket is in your hands, you'll be eager to take it everywhere and capture life's moments. If you want to get the most out of this handy device and take amazing videos and photos, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the following shooting parameters first.

Why is my material not clear?

Analysis

Osmo Pocket's default resolution is 1920 * 1080 (commonly known as 1080p), which is ideal for instant editing on mobile phones and instant sharing.

If you want to capture detailed videos or require post-processing with some professional video editing software, it would be better to shoot in 4K, i.e. 3840*2160, Super Fine Quality, to leave more room for post-processing. However, it should be noted that higher resolution videos require more storage space.

Why is the motion in my video blurry?

Frame rate

Frame rate refers to how often successive images (frames) appear within one second. The more frames captured in one second, the smoother the video will be. The frame rate for the movies we usually watch is 24fps, commonly known as the Cinematic Look.

30fps can give a more authentic and exciting visual experience. The default video setting on an iPhone is 30fps, which is suitable for everyday video shooting.

If you are going to show more motion elements in your videos, you can try slow motion at 60fps. This way, the image quality will not be affected and the video will be smooth and clear after you process it with post-processing software.

Why are my videos always too stretched or not bright enough?

Osmo Pocket's Advanced mode offers easier exposure control, providing increased creativity flexibility.

Set the ISO and shutter speed in M mode and the exposure value will also be adjusted accordingly to ensure your material is properly exposed.

ISO

ISO is the sensitivity of the camera sensor to light. At the same shutter speed, the higher the ISO value, the brighter your shot will be.

Under bright sunlight during the day, ISO 100 is a great choice. If you set the ISO too high, there will be more noise in your shot and the image quality will decrease. In particular, there will be more noise in the dark areas of your material.

On the contrary, at night you should set a higher ISO for longer exposure. You need to set the correct ISO to ensure image quality. This requires a balance between exposure and image quality.

Close

Shutter speed is used to control exposure time. Osmo Pocket's shutter speed is usually set to a speed that is twice the frame rate.

For example, the recommended shutter speed for ordinary videos at 30fps is 1/60s. At this speed, the video may be a bit blurry, but it is more accurate to how we visually perceive movements in our daily lives. It conforms to the visual experience of the naked eye and looks more natural.

How can I give my video more style?

White balance

In Advanced settings, white balance (WB) is one of the most frequently adjusted parameters.

The WB value determines the color tone of your video, conveying different artistic perceptions. Usually, the base value for Osmo Pocket is set to WB 6000. If you prefer a warmer color tone, you can increase the WB value. Otherwise, lower the WB value for a cooler look.

After familiarizing yourself with the most commonly used settings above, you now have a better idea of how to make your own creative movies. Take Osmo Pocket outside to capture the beautiful moments that spring has to offer!
